Apply for a Grant

Before applying for a grant, applicants should review the Foundation’s Funding Policy and Grant Guidelines and Funding Priorities.

Funding Policy & Grant Guidelines

The Richard King Mellon Foundation seeks to improve the competitive position and strengthen the vitality of southwestern Pennsylvania, particularly the City of Pittsburgh and its neighborhoods; and protect precious green and natural infrastructure, particularly in western Pennsylvania.

The Foundation gives priority to projects and programs that have clearly defined outputs, outcomes, and an evaluation component.

The Foundation accepts applications throughout the year and does not consider requests on behalf of individuals or from outside of the United States; nor does the Foundation encourage requests from outside Pennsylvania. Applicants must be a charitable, tax-exempt organization with a valid IRS Tax ID Number or be a government entity to qualify for funding.

The Foundation receives requests from many worthwhile organizations for support. Unfortunately, we can respond favorably to only a small fraction of them. This application in no way implies a commitment of funding from the Foundation, nor a specific timeline for consideration. The Foundation staff member assigned to this request will determine funding consideration and timeline for presentation to the Board of Trustees.

We look forward to learning more about your project. Please feel free to contact Lisa Reed, Information and Grants Manager, at 412-392-2815 if you have any questions.
