Dr. Jonathan D. Green:
A prolific, award-winning musician, composer, and conductor, as well as a distinguished scholar and college administrator, Dr. Jonathan D. Green is the 15th president of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, a post he has held since 2017. He previously was provost and dean of the faculty at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, and, before that, dean of the college and vice president for academic affairs at Sweet Briar College in Sweet Briar, Virginia.
In her role as search committee chair, Signe Gates noted at the time Green was appointed to the presidency, “Jonathan demonstrated an in-depth knowledge, appreciation, and genuine love of student-centered, liberal arts education, as delivered by schools like Susquehanna.…” Upon receiving the Foundation’s grant in support of the Freshwater Research Institute this year, Green commented, “We are educating students to become the next generation of leaders in an increasingly interdependent and complex world. Universities play a pivotal role in raising environmental consciousness, [and] this grant allows us to build upon our previous successes as we work to ensure the good health of the Susquehanna River and its tributaries.”
Green earned a bachelor’s degree from the Fredonia School of Music, a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts, and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
